Progressives may think of states like California when you discuss solar, but Middle America is acting on solar, too. Illinois is the latest state to embrace solar energy as the Illinois State Legislature passes more solar funding this week including the statewide Solar For All Program. The goal is for 100% renewable energy by 2050 and $140 million for local communities to transition to renewable energy and away from fossil fuels. Coal plants may remain open at least through 2038, and even indefinitely if they can reduce carbon emissions by 45% of current levels by 2038. As Illinois and more states embrace solar, Solar Integrated Roofing Corp. (OTC PINK: SIRC) has expanded its solar footprint to some 38 states.

A growing number of states see the benefits of solar energy for its inhabitants. Rather than wait for the Federal Infrastructure Bill to pass later this year, Illinois is a state that is taking green energy seriously enough for the political parties to compromise and approve the state solar bill — embracing all efforts to reach 100% renewable energy by 2050. State lawmakers also recognize the importance of transitioning to a green eco-system rather than moving too quickly to adopt green and drop all fossil fuels, such as coal plants, right away.

The Solar For All Program is  a comprehensive effort to bring solar to low-income neighborhoods and offers $80 million in state funding for contractor training to create renewable energy jobs. As communities transition to solar alternative energy, jobs related to the solar field will be created. The State seeks to have its vendor companies hire graduates of its Qualified Job Training Programs. Meanwhile, on the Federal level all state eyes are on the progress of the Infrastructure Bill now being negotiated in Congress. Scheduled to come for a vote next week, this bill seeks to spend trillions on actual roads/bridges infrastructure  and human infrastructure, such as social programs. In the middle are funding proposals for alternative energy — such as grants for solar installations, electric cars, EV Charging Stations and other programs to lower carbon emissions nationally. SIRC is moving steadily to expand its solar footprint to some 38 states as all this state and federal legislation for green renewable energy develops.

This signature piece of legislation is seen losing steam in its current form. Management of SIRC says that the bill would be significant to the Company, in terms of motivating solar buyers and offering grants and tax credits plus buyer rebates on electric vehicles. The initial infrastructure bill at $1.2 trillion is now depending on Congress passing the $3.5 trillion budget bill, according to USA Today. Companies like Solar Integrated Roofing Corp. (OTC PINK: SIRC) would benefit if the bills are passed, leading to more solar installations subsidized by government tax credits.

Pablo Diaz, CEO of SIRC-owned USA Solar Networks, said this week on the live online Q&A that the infrastructure bill — as proposed — would impact all segments of SIRC’s operations. SIRC would welcome passage to stimulate more sales in its solar, roofing, rechargeable solar battery and EV Charging Station businesses. According to one stock analyst, EV Charging Station stocks would also benefit from the infrastructure bill and $7.5 billion being allocated for the industry’s growth. SIRC is also in the EV Charging Station industry, through its dedicated division and ownership of subsidiary PLEMco. The national legislation appears to be taking more time than first believed. In The EV charging station industry, Solar Integrated Roofing Corp. (OTC PINK: SIRC), has applied for some $100 million in government grants to help the Company build more EV charging stations. David Massey, Chairman and CEO of SIRC, said that he remains hopeful that these grants will be approved — but they remain in applicant mode for now.

In both solar and EV Charging Stations, SIRC has a lot riding on the shape of the Infrastructure Billl. Congressional Democrats will either have to compromise with conservative senators and congressmen — most of them Republicans — and lower the amount of the trillion dollar packages — and settle for a lesser amount.
