It’s Columbia vs. Stanford in the field of alternative energy. A Stanford University professor says alternative energy could power 100% of Amer-ica’s needs by 2050. But now a Columbia Professor’s research finds that alter-native energy — such a solar, wind and water — can also be inhibited by periodic ‘energy droughts’ due to climate change. One example: look at what hap-pened to the fifth largest solar state in the country, Texas, when extreme weather wrecked its alternative energy infrastructure two winters’ back. The findings from Columbia do not negate the upside impact of alternative energy as a key green clean energy source of power — but only to clarify that periods of dramatic change in climate can interrupt its sustainable continuity. The Texas example of two years ago, when freezing weather froze wind turbines, etc., is only one case in point.

Overall, SIRC sees the massive benefits offered by alternative energy in solar and non-gasoline cars — emitting less carbon into the environment and building a greener, cleaner environment. It installs rooftop solar systems backed by rechargeable solar battier and EV Charging Stations. for electric vehicles.

Despite what the Columbia professor termed ‘energy droughts,’ periods when weather interrupts the impact of alternative energy sources — SIRC’s solar and electric car charging stations can make a positive impact on innovative energy usage.

The Stanford Professor cited the performance of four-hour storage batteries to take excess energy generated by alternative energy sources — such as solar, wind and water — to meet 2050 deadlines for 100% of US energy power. Stanford told CNBC that it is possible to transition to a fully renewable system without any blackouts or batteries with ultra-long-duration battery technology.

He found that four-hour batteries can obtain more than four hours of charge when stacked to discharge sequentially. The batteries can be even used simultaneously. But the Columbia Professor said ‘energy droughts’ could last in some markets by as long as a year. That is far longer than batteries can counter. They can be outlasted by natural energy shortfalls due to the environment.

Stanford argues that four hour batteries can generate grid stability. “And I figured,” Stanford tells CNBC. “Oh, my God, this is so basic. So obvious. I can’t believe nobody has figured this out.” The Texas experience of two years ago defies that experience.

In his paper published in Renewable Energy, the Stanford professor describes the national transition to clean energy and what it would take to stabilize the grid in 2050-2051. The paper talks about wind, solar and water energy and how the nation can reach 100% alternative energy independence.

“While the changes occurring so far are encouraging, they are not enough. Experts believe the world needs to transition all energy by 2035 to eliminate the seven million air pollution deaths that occur each year and to minimize climate damage,” the Stanford professor concludes.

A published paper from Stanford finds that the application of solar, wind and water alternative energy would generate substantial job growth. The results indicate a 100% transition would result in 4.7 million more jobs. They would be long term, full-time jobs among the almost all US states and Washington, DC. Only four states would experience job losses, the paper finds. Those would be in the areas of mining, fossil fuels, uranium, bio-energy and in the manufacturing of appliances that use combustion fuels.

The US Energy Department estimates that 40% of all US electricity could be generated by solar in 2030. The result could also be 1.5 million more jobs. So the stakes are high. Solar installers like SIRC want to see the industry grow nationally. SIRC is building a nationwide energy brand. Through its subsidiary PLEMCo., SIRC is in the EV Charging Station business and hopes to grow with more acquisitions in this space. A core business of the company is also rooftop solar systems equipped with solar rechargeable solar batteries.
