J. D. Power Studies Show That Fast EV Charging Stations Make Happier EV Owners And More Direct Public Chargers Are Needed To Satisfy Drivers; Solar Integrated Roofing Corp. (OTC PINK: SIRC) Sees Opportunity In Home And Commercial EV Charging Station Sector

J.D. Power, the researchers who poll new car owners regarding satisfaction levels, in new reports find that electric car owners not only want more EV Charging Stations so they can travel farther, but are happiest with level 2 fast chargers. AP reports in U.S. News & World Report that some stations take hours, not minutes to charge, and that’s too long and hurting sales. Anything less than Level 2 charging is seen as too-slow, inconvenient and holds back what is today only a 2% penetration market of new electric car buyers. Only Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) gets it nearly right with its proprietary network of fast chargers — and there need to be more of them. Of the roughly 42,000 public charging stations in the U.S., only 5,000 or so are direct current fast chargers. Solar Integrated Roofing Corp. (OTC PINK: SIRC) sees opportunity as it grows its EV Charging Station dedicated division.

J.D. Power has been measuring new car owner satisfaction for years. A recent study by J.D. Power finds that EV owners who have a Level 2 fast charger at home are happiest. The Energy Department says more than 80% of charges take place at home, AP reports. Another J.D. Power study finds that EV owners have other issues with the cost of charging an electric car, repairs needed on charging systems and Wi-Fi issues. But slow charging has the largest negative impact on EV satisfaction. More J.D. Power findings find that these feelings are having an impact on the market. Some 27% of American consumers surveyed say they may buy an EV within the next four years — but an equal 27% said they have no intention of buying one, the Study shows.

EV drivers agree on one things: Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) gets it right with its own private and proprietary network of EV Charging Stations. In just 15 minutes, Tesla can charge their own vehicles to go 175 more miles. Tesla has about 25,000 chargers worldwide —and EV owners want more of them. They’re fast, but Tesla owners want more of them. EV drivers of all stripes are reman anxious about whether they’ll have enough charge to get home or make a longer trip.”

A major issue is cost: the price for a charge generally runs about $16 and a super-fast charger can cost up to $100,000 each to install, says AP. Some locations are opting to save money and install slower, Level 1 chargers.  Drivers want them along highways where farther driving is done or in urban areas where EV Charging Station availability is reduced. The EV Charging Station world now sees OEM car makers such as GM (NYSE: GM)  Mary Barra, Chair and CEO of GM, said the company is working to “scale faster” to attain its goal of $1 million+ in global EV sales by 2025—and is upping the ante to $35 billion for electric cars, autonomous vehicles and domestic battery production through 2025. Also Ford (NYSE: F) will begin shipping its all-electric F-150 ‘Lightning’ truck in mid-2022. Ford (NYSE: F) is raising its own dollar commitment to EV through the middle of the decade by about one-third to $30 billion by 2025. It expects its Lincoln brand to be fully electric within four years, according to The Wall Street Journal.  Other brands are also jumping in.

When it acquired Pacific Lighting Co. (PLEMCo) as it launched its dedicated EV Charging Station division, Solar Integrated Roofing Corp. (OTC PINK: SIRC) has a unique advantage in its entry into the fast-growing EV Charging Station sector.

Because more than 80% of today’s EV owners charge their electric vehicles at home — whether by fast or slow charger — SIRC’s advantage is that its solar, roofing and other projects have the company in the home already. That gives solar and roofing specialist SIRC a cross-selling opportunity to not only install a solar rechargeable system —– it is already an authorized installer of Tesla’s (NASDAQ: TSLA) PowerWall products — over recharging station firms only in public spaces.

The nearest competition in the future is a strategic partnership between Ford (NYSE: F)-Sunrun (NASDAQ: RUN) for Sunrun to install in the home a Ford EV charging system.  J. D. SIRC is already looking at more potential EV Charging Station target companies for future takeovers, according to David Massey, CEO of SIRC. Massey said, “Getting into EV charging was a really big move for us.” SIRC has applied for a Department of Energy (DOE) $20-$40 million grant, it said. Massey said, “We recently applied for a Department of Energy grant, which could provide between $20-$40 million in funding to help support the build-out of dedicated electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions nationwide through our various operating brands.”

Solar Integrated Roofing Corp. (OTC PINK: SIRC) recently reported sharply higher volume of 87% to $17.1 million for its FY 2021 ended February 28, 2021. That compares to $9.1 million the prior year. Gross profits increased by 144% for the 2021FY To $3.5 million. SIRC continued its acquisition spree during the year and reaffirmed its guidance figure of at least $100 million in sales in the 12 months ended May 31, 2022. It also said it “expects” to reach profitability in FY 2022.
